WHAT'S YOUR
HEPATITIS C RISK?
You can get hepatitis C from events that happened once, long ago, or actions you may not think of as risky.
Have you ever . . .*
- had any tattoos or body piercings?
- used injection drugs (even once) or inhaled drugs through a straw?
- had unprotected sex with several partners?
*This is not a complete list of risk factors.

Getting a tattoo, using injected or inhaled drugs, giving emergency medical care . . . patients talk about how they got hepatitis C and the importance of getting tested.

“The way that I got infected was during an emergency appendectomy in 1984…they didn’t
test for that type of disease back then.”

“Have you ever shared a straw of cocaine? I did. One night 20 years ago. I never did it again or
even thought about it. Not until a year ago when I found out that I have Hepatitis C.”

“Have you ever tried using I.V. drugs? I did. Once. But it turns out that one time may have given me hepatitis C. Because I shared the needle. One lousy needle. One lousy time.”

“This snake tattoo I have is a beauty. People stop me in the street about it. The artist was a real pro. He sterilized everything…at least I thought he did.”
